Michael Tsor hit an alley-oop at the buzzer to give the #16 Stars (1-2 league; 2-3 overall) the upset win. It was the first league loss for Magen David (3-1; 9-1) in 21 games dating back to February 2017. Ethan Abizadeh and Jonah Kalaty each scored 14 points for North Shore. Albert Nsiri had 18 points for the Warriors, who led by five at halftime but had to rally from five down in the final minute to tie the game with :10 left before Tsor’s heroics.

Heschel 69 Ramaz 67 OT

Ricky Sutton’s two free throws in the final seconds capped off a wild game as the Heat (3-0; 4-1) won early season Manhattan bragging rights. The home team almost lost the game in regulation but Charlie Sutton’s falling-out-of-bounds 3-pointer went in at the buzzer. In the extra session, Ramaz’ Aaron Shapira was fouled on a long trey and hit all three free throws to tie the game. But there was 8 seconds left, plenty of time for Ricky Sutton to get fouled and hit the game-winning free throws.

Ofek Reef had 22 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists, Mason Schwaber added 20 points and Jonah Eber scored 16 to lead the #14 Bulldogs (3-2).

The score was only 17-16 late in the second quarter but the #3 Wildcats (3-1 league; 6-2 overall) ended the half on a 7-0 run and then poured it on in the final 16 minutes. Gavriel Kahn and Zach Brown each scored 14 points to lead DRS. Matthew Jedwab had 14 for the #16 Hawks (1-2; 4-6).

Judah Oppenheimer scored 25 points, including the game-winning free throw with :33 left, and Drew Greenbaum added 21 points as the #7 Sting (2-1; 5-3) withstood a second half rally at home. The Wolfpack (2-3) were down by 12 at the half and trailed 53-48 with over 2 minutes left before tying the game in the final minute.

Max Zakheim had 13 points, Jack Reinhart added 12 and Max Mayerhoff hit two clutch 3-pointers late in the 3rd quarter as the #3 Cougars (3-0; 5-3) turned back the Thunder. JEC, which led most of the first half and by 31-29 until Mayerhoff's first trey, missed three 3-pointers that could have tied the game in the final 35 seconds. Aharon Heller led the Thunder (0-2; 0-3) with 12 points, Yair Kimmel chipped in 11.

Nadav Twizer scored 21 points and Gabe Plotsker had 13 points and 12 rebounds to lead the visiting Cobras (3-1; 4-5). Eitan Pfeiffer had 13 points for the #25 Lions (0-4; 1-7) and Eitan Warburg added 11.

Ofek Reef scored 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds but the Bulldogs (1-2) could not get an 11-point halftime deficit down below seven the whole second half.

Magen David stayed perfect while rolling to the Cooper Invitational title. But defending JHA #1 Shalhevet started its season in similarly impressive fashion, including a 40-point win in the Glouberman Tournament championship game. The result was a narrow vote for the Firehawks as the top-ranked teams. Expect these two loaded squads to slug it out from opposite coasts all season long.

The Cooper results also gave the rankings its biggest bumps, with runner-up Rochelle Zell and 3rd place Posnack jumping from a tie at #25 to #5 and #8 respectively.

Magen David Rolls to Cooper '18 Title; Shalhevet Wins 1st Glouberman 'Ship

Albert Nsiri poured in 38 points as the top seeded Warriors (8-0) completed a dominant tournament, winning all four of their games by more than 20 points. Ray Jajati added 21 points and Michael Natkin had 10 for Magen David. Brian Silverstein led the #11 Tigers (3-1) with 18 points, Lee Farkas had 11 and Niv Ostroff chipped in 10.

3rd Place: Posnack Jewish Day  54    DeToledo   37

Joel Brandwein's 14 points led a balanced attack as the #12 Rams (3-1) wrapped up an impressive tournament. Liam Evenhaim and Dylan Esulin each had 11 points for the #10 Jaguars (2-2).

5th Place: Hillel Miami   49      Rambam   41

Aaron Ben Shmuel led a balanced attack with 11 points as the 8th seeded Lions (3-1) topped the #3 seed Ravens (6-3). Tournament high scorer Aaron Azose netted 24 points for Rambam.

7th Place: YULA    53    Milken    41

Noam Meisels scored 21 points and Joseph Sassoon addd 17 as the #2 Panthers (2-2) beat their LA rival. Blake Asherian had 14 points to lead the #4 Wildcats (1-3) and Ethan Zimmerman added 10.

1st Place: Flatbush     56    Jewish Day School    44

Jack Rosow scored 17 points, Eddie Lincer added 15 and Joe Kattan had 12 as the Falcons (5-3) took Tier 2. Dani Offer had 14 points and Zach Gross added 11 for the Lions (2-2), who finished where they started in the seedings.

Yaakov Mendelsberg scored 14 points and Akiva Lafer had 11 as #7 The Yeshiva (2-2) denied the 5th seeded host Macs (1-3) a finish in the top 11. Ethan Morris and Nossy Orgel each scored 14 points for Cooper.

The Firehawks (5-0) opened the game scoring the first 13 points and were never challenged en route to their first Glouberman title. Zach Muller and Asher Dauer were named co-MVPs of the tournament.
