BOYS

CALIFORNIA

Colony 48 Shalhevet 45

The #3 Firehawks (25-10) fell just short of the state Final Four, losing in the CIF Division 3 Southern regional semifinals on a last second 3-pointer after leading by 10 at the start of the 4th quarter. Sam Jacobson led Shalhevet with 17 points, Yakov Liberman added 13 and Ben Jacobson had 10. The Titans made four 3-pointers in the game’s final 9 minutes after not hitting any before that. The Firehawks went 15-2 since Dec. 20 - with their only losses to Colony tonight and in the sectional semifinals.

BOYS

Holly 57 Denver Jewish Day 54

In the opening round of the CHSA 1A state tournament, the Tigers (13-9) rallied from 10 points down to tie it on three free throws by Solly Bielsky with :09 left but lost it on a 3-pointer with :01.8 left. Bielsky scored 24 points and Ronen Trujillo 15 in their final high school games.

March 7

GIRLS

YESHIVA LEAGUE

Frisch 49 SAR 45

The #1 Cougars (20-2) saw an 11-point 4th quarter lead dwindle to 3 but held off the #2 Sting (25-2) to win the MYHSAL championship and deny SAR back-to-back titles. Izzy Nadtrich led the Cougars with 11 points, Zoe Levy had 10 and Gabby Hoffer hit three huge 3 pointers for 9 points. Ava Cohen had 18 points for the Sting and Nava Bousbib added 13. The teams split their four games this year, with SAR winning the Glouberman championship on a 3-pointer at the buzzer and the teams’ first regular season game. Frisch won the second regular season game last month to snap SAR’s 36-game win streak.

WEST

Kit Carson 51 Denver Jewish Day 38

Kaitlin Schatz scored 18 points but the Tigers (11-5) saw their season end in the opening round of the CHSA 1A state tournament.

BOYS

MIDATLANTIC

Yeshiva Greater Washington 57 Mekor Chaim 55

The Knights (14-5) won the ISSAC championship behind 19 points from Akiva Ravin, 14 from Yakov Radner and 11 from Dovid Meir Tyberg. Yoni Bakayev had 24 points for the Cyclones (17-12), whose 4-game win streak was snapped.

NORTHEAST

Rocky Hill Country Day (RI) 61 Gann 41

The #20 Red Heifers (21-6) fell in the NEPSAC Class C semifinals.

WEST

Peetz 61 Denver Academy of Torah 37

The 22nd seeded Wolves (11-11) fell to the 11th seed in the CHSA 1A opening round.

CALIFORNIA

Shalhevet 51 Gahr 37

Sam Jacobson scored 22 points and Yakov Liberman added 12 as the 8th seeded #3 Firehawks (25-9) knocked off the top seed to advance to the CIF D3 Southern regional semifinals. They’ll play Colony, the team that beat them in the sectional semifinals.
