The 2nd Annual Binyamin Airley A’H Invitational featuring eight SoFlo Jewish boys varsity teams will be played Saturday night and Sunday at Scheck Hillel Community School and the Michael-Ann Russell JCC in North Miami Beach.
The tournament honors the memory of Binyamin Meir Airley, a 21-year-old paratrooper who was killed in November 2023 along with two other IDF members when they went to confront a pair of terrorists in a house in northern Gaza.
Participating teams this year are Jewish Culture (ranked #7 in the JHA Top 25), H.A. Miami (#17), Katz YHS (#18), defending champion Posnack Jewish Day (#21), Ohr HaTorah (#24); Hillel Miami, Tiferes Torah and Landow Jewish Academy.
The tournament supports Beit Binyamin, a retreat in Tzvat set up in Airley’s memory that offers respite to combat soldiers, bereaved and displaced families and others experiencing the traumatic effects of war.
The tournament will be single-elimination with a consolation bracket.
Opening round games Saturday night at Hillel Miami are:
8:00 - Katz YHS vs Tiferes Torah
8:00 - Ohr HaTorah vs Landow Jewish Academy
9:40 - Jewish Culture vs Hillel Miami
9:40 - H.A. Miami vs Posnack Jewish Day
Winners play in the tournament semifinals Sunday with the losers moving into the consolation semis.
