The Barrack H.A. Cougars and the North Shore H.A. Lions won the girls and boys titles Sunday in the Sam Gyenes Memorial Tournament at Ramaz.
The Cougars came up I-95 from Philadelphia and beat Flatbush in the final 58-37 after beating the SAR JV in the opening round.
In the boys’ tourney, the Lions, ranked #7 in the JHA National Top 25, beat HAFTR in the opening game and then defeated host Ramaz 58-48 in the final.
GIRLS
Merle Kassab led the Falcons (9-3) with 29 points and Tunie Hanan added 16 in her first game of the season. The loss snapped a 6-game win streak for the Rams (8-7), who were led by Lindsey Feit’s 15 points and 13 from Leila Sakhai. .
Mikayla Trajtenberg scored 24 points and Eden Singer added 18 to lead the Cougars.
3rd Place
1st Place
The Falcons (9-4) scored the game’s first four points but the Cougars (6-6) scored the next 19 and were never threatened from there en route to the title. Eden Singer and Noa Singer each scored 14 points, Sami Neff added 13 and Mikayla Trajtenberg had 10. For Flatbush, Camille Mosseri had 11 points and Merle Kassab scored 10.
BOYS
Milan Kushner scored 24 points and Eden Bracha added 22 as the host Rams secured a spot in the final. Benjamin Gelwarg had 29 points for the Cougars and Ben Makias scored 10.
3rd Place
Peter Drukker scored 24 points and Sam Siri added 22 for the #23 Hawks (14-12). Harrison Andelman led the Cougars (1-11) with 11 points and Benjamin Gelwarg added 10.
Final
David Orbach led the Lions with 20 points, Jordan Zarka added 15 and Jonah Carmili had 10 as the #7 Lions (21-3) took the title. Milan Kushner had 22 points for the Rams (11-17).
Boys
Asher Falk scored 29 points and Alex August added 20 as the #24 Cougars (11-11) won their fifth straight game. Sam Gruenberg led the Warriors (11-5) with 12 points.
The Rams improved to 4-8. The Jaguars fall to 4-5.
The #22 Bulldogs (16-5) easily extended their win streak to nine games after opening with a 34-5 first quarter. Daniel Schick led Yavneh with 19 points, including 8-of-9 shooting from the field, Jordan Dekelbaum added 13 points and Sam Rael had 10.
Avi Halpert scored 20 points and Nathan Sellam added 18 as the #1 Firehawks (22-4) won their fifth straight game. Josh Barak led the #4 Panthers (20-8) with 10 points.
The #2 Wolfpack (23-5) rallied from a 15-point halftime deficit to lead by seven in the 4th quarter but a 3-pointer at the buzzer sent the game into overtime where the Lions rallied from six down to win on a late basket. Johny Dan led Valley Torah with 31 points and Noam Mayouhas added 18.
Girls
Lilly Yalovsky led the Bulldogs (15-7) with 16 points.
David Fritz scored 18 points and Ted Lazoff added 11 as the #9 Lions (9-3) won their fourth straight game.
Elie Schwartz hit the winning 3-pointer for the second straight game, breaking a 60-60 in the final minute. Eli Wahlberg and Michael Cohen each scored 14 points to lead the Warriors (11-4) and Sam Gruenberg added 12.
Andrew Meltzer and Benjamin Gelwarg each scored 11 points for the Cougars (1-9).
Avi Schwartz scored 14 points and Josh Canner added 10 as the #11 M-Cats (9-2) extended their win streak to eight games.
Benjy Schwartz scored 24 points to lead four players in double figures for the Red Heifers (3-2). Gahl Rones added 14 points, Eli Leder had 11 and Ben Spira scored 10,
The Roadrunners fall to 2-5.
Levi Kalvari scored 15 points, Maurice Nsiri added 11 and Ami Prisman had 10 but the Knights (2-2) fell short against the top team in their division.
Tanenbaum CHAT vs Crawford
The #5 Storm (14-3) had their 8-game win streak snapped by undefeated Kings. Meir Eisen led Katz with 16 points, Yuval Ovaknin added 13 and Jake Kaweblum had 11.
Zion Dascal scored 24 points, Josh Matheson had 19 and Tal Kessous had 14 for the Eagles (6-3).
Posnack Jewish Day vs Hillel Miami
Jaguars are now 2-5.
Sam Rael and Daniel Schick each scored 15 points and Jacob Blank added 12 as the #22 Bulldogs (15-5) won their eighth straight game.
#21 Tigers improve to 7-1.
Ben Avner scored 12 points and Daniel Fiedler added 10 as the Wolves (6-2) held on after leading by 12 points at halftime.
Lions fall to 2-7,
CALIFORNIA
Nathan Sellam scored 21 points, Avi Halpert added 16 and Oz Shalom had 13 to pace the #1 Firehawks (21-4) to their fifth straight win.
#15 Jaguars (15-3) had their 12 game win streak snapped.
Ari Varon scored 12 points and Yonah Light added 11 for the Lions (8-5).
Alex Gilbert led the Lions (7-7) with 20 points, Jonathan Wang added 18 and Jack Silberstein had 17.
Wolves improve to 3-8.
