TANZMAN TOURNAMENT

Championship

Fuchs Mizrachi 47 Atlanta Jewish Academy 31

The #25 Mayhem (15-4) found themselves down eight points after failing to score in the opening quarter but shook that off to easily win their sixth straight game and third straight Tanzman title. Tournament MVP Ephraim Blau scored 20 points, Steven Brenis added 11 and Eitan Joel had 10. For the Jaguars (10-13), who also lost to Fuchs in the tournament’s opening round robin game, Elliot Sokol scored 13 points and Noah Kalnitz had 11.

3rd Place

Farber Hebrew Day 45 Hillel Pittsburgh 41

Aaron Adler scored 19 points and Ari Schon added 13 to lead the host Fire.

5th Place

Columbus Torah Academy 41 Denver Academy of Torah 37

Both tournament victories for the Lions (5-9) were against the Wolves. Izzy Potestio led DAT with 10 points.

MIDATLANTIC

Berman H.A. 56 Beth Tfiloh 43

Asher Falk scored 29 points and Erez Epstein had 12 points and 12 rebounds to lead the #17 Cougars (13-10).

CALIFORNIA

Shalhevet 57 Verdugo Hills 54

The Firehawks (26-9) beat the top seed in the CIF Division 5 Southern regional to become the first-ever JHA girls team to make it to a California regional final. Yalee Schwartz scored 21 points, Arielle Grossman added 16 and Talia Tizabi had 11 for Shalhevet, who will play Victory Christian in the state Final Four.

MIDATLANTIC

Berman H.A. 76 Beth Tfiloh 53

Tali Cohen’s 16 points led four players in double figures as the Cougars (17-5) won their fifth straight game. Ma’ayan Zakheim added 15 points, Amaya Leibtag had 12 and Jenny Kagan scored 10.

WEST

Sunnyside Christian 44 Northwest Yeshiva HS 38

Despite jumping out to a 13-0 lead, the Lions (18-8) lost in the WIAA 1B 3rd Place game. Desite the disappointing final two games, Lionss completed their best season ever, winning a district championship for the first time and making it all the way to the state Final Four.

CALIFORNIA

Valley Torah 72 Millikan 59

The 16th-seeded Wolfpack (31-3) beat the #5 seed in their gym to advance to the CIF Division 4 Southern regional final, becoming the first JHA boys team to win three regional games in one tournament. Johny Dan led Valley Torah with 24 points, Noam Mayouhas added 20 and Gabriel R’Bibo had 11.

YESHIVA LEAGUE

TABC 67 Flatbush 62

The visiting #5 Storm (17-4) overcame a 39-point performance by Irwin Azar of the Falcons (11-10) to win in the quarterfinals. Eli Saks led TABC with 12 points and Netanel Benloulou, Yis Kaminetzky and Harry Orlinsky each had 11. Morris Chaaya added 17 points for Flatbush. The Storm will face SAR in an all-West semifinal.

Round robin play

Fuchs Mizrachi 66 Denver Academy of Torah 22

Adiel Sharvit scored 16 points and Ephraim Blau added 12 as the #25 Mayhem (14-4) won their fifth straight game and was the only team undefeated in the three round robin games.Izzy Potestio scored all 22 points for the Wolves (4-10).

Atlanta Jewish Academy 60 Farber Hebrew Day 34

Noah Kalnitz scored 21 points, Elliot Sokol added 16 and Joel Asherian had 13 as the Jaguars (10-12) denied the host Fire a spot in the championship game. Farber was led by Aaron Adler with 24 points.

Hillel Pittsburgh 48 Columbus Torah Academy 41

The loss sends the Lions (4-9) to the 5th Place game on Sunday.

WEST

Hill Country Christian of Austin 47 Yavneh Dallas 40

The #10 Bulldogs (24-4) saw their 13-game win streak end in the TAPPS 3A championship, dashing their hopes to duplicate the 2020 state title. A miserable first half saw Yavneh down 22-11 at the break but the Bulldogs clawed their way back behind a strong press and Noah Ohayon’s shooting, taking their first lead on a pair of Hillel Baynash free throws with 2:25 left, But the Knights closed the game on a 9-0 run.

Christ Academy 67 Beren Houston 45

The Stars (19-4) had overcome double-digit deficits in their previous two games but it was too much to ask for in the TAPPS 1A championship game against the Warriors and their outstanding sophomore Dilen Miller. Ariel Diner scored nearly all of Beren’s points with 37.

Almira Coulee 52 Northwest Yeshiva HS 43

The Lions (18-7) fell in the WIAA 1B state semifinal

Ephraim Blau scored 19 points to lead the #25 Mayhem (13-4) to their fourth straight win.

Farber Hebrew Day 55 Columbus Torah Academy 47

The host Fire rallied to win their second straight game behind 31 points from Ari Schon and 11 from Aaron Adler. .

Atlanta Jewish Academy 73 Denver Academy of Torah 29

Noah Kalnitz’ 17 points led four Jaguars in double figures. Joel Asherian added 15 points and Elliot Sokol and Sam Kutner each scored 11. Izzy Potestio led the Wolves (4-9) with 17 points.

WEST

Yavneh Dallas 50 Midland Classical 36

The #10 Bulldogs (24-3) won their 13th straight game and are headed back to the TAPPS 3A final. Yavneh will play Hill Country Christian of Austin on Friday, hoping to repeat their 2020 championship. Noah Ohayon and Daniel Schick led the Bulldogs with 13 points each and Jordan Dekelbaum added 10, shooting 8-of-10 from the free throw line.

Beren Houston 58 Calvary Baptist 46

Elie Gelman scored 23 points and Ariel Diner added 15 as the Stars (19-3) overcame a double digit deficit for the second straight game to extend their win streak to nine and advance to the TAPPS 1A championship game. Beren trailed by 13 points at the end of the 1st quarter but scored the first 16 points of the second and took control late in the 3rd. The Stars lost their two prior appearances in the title game but hope third time is a charm when they face Christ Academy in Friday’s final.

Northwest Yeshiva HS 50 Willapa Valley 40

The #19 Lions (18-6) advanced to the WIAA 1B Final Four behind 24 points from Yoel Kintzer. Northwest Yeshiva overcame a 7-point 3rd quarter deficit and won it with a 12-0 run over the final four minutes that included hitting all six of their free throws. Lions will play top-seed Almira Coulee in Friday’s semifinal.

Caprock Academy 48 Denver Jewish Day 43

The #25 Tigers (17-3) had their 11-game win streak snapped in the opening round of the CHSAA 1A regional playoffs.

CALIFORNIA

Valley Torah 69 Chatsworth 49

The 16th seeded Wolfpack (30-3) jumped out to a 12-0 lead and at one point in the 3rd quarter were up by 31 as they beatt the #8 seed to advance to the state Elite 8 for the first time. Johny Dan had 34 pointts and Ethan List added 17 for Valley Torah, who will play #5 Millikan in the CIF Division 4 Southern semifinals.

YESHIVA LEAGUE

Frisch 63 MTA 52

The #17 Lions (9-6) got to within three a few times in the second half but the #7 Cougars (13-6) hit their free throws down the stretch to reach the quarterfinals, where they will play #1 DRS. Tzvi Rudman led MTA with 19 points, Dani Wolk had 11 and Donny Book scored 10.

SAR 50 YDE 33

The #2 Sting (14-1) scored just three points in the first quarter but used a 15-5 second quarter to take control en route to their 12th straight win and a trip to the semifinals. Netanel Hyman led SAR with 19 points and Josh Brody added 10. Isaac Tawil had 12 points to lead the #20 Thunder (9-9). The Sting will play the winner of Flatbush-TABC.

Fuchs Mizrachi 75 Atlanta Jewish Academy 50

The Jaguars (7-12) stayed close for most of three quarters before the #25 Mayhem (12-4) stepped it up a notch over the final 10 minutes. Ephraim Blau led Fuchs with 31 points - including two breakaway dunks in the 4th quarter - and Ari Jacoby added 19 points. For the Jaguars (8-12) , Elliot Sokol scored 16 points and Noak Kalnitz and Ezra Feen each added 13.

Farber Hebrew Day 43 Hillel Pittsburgh 40

The host Fire rallied after trailing by 12 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Ari Schon led Farber with 18 points and Aaron Adler added 10.

Columbus Torah Academy 50 Denver Academy of Torah 37

Yaki Liebesman had 13 points and aiden Samuelson added 11 to lead the Lions (4-7). Izzy Potestio scored 19 points for the Wolves (4-8).
