The Heat won their season opener, rallying from a 12-point halftime deficit. Zach Itslowitz led Hillel with 24 points, 22 in the 2nd half.

The visiting Thunder (2-1) won their regular season opener behind 15 pts from Aharon Rozehzadeh and 11 from Aharon Erez

The defending champs won their season opener behind Laya Rosenberg’s 18 points. The Cobras are 0-2.
Shalhevet will host teams from 11 schools for the 12th annual Steve Glouberman Z’L Basketball Tournament starting Wednesday, Oct. 21.
The eight girls teams competing are: the host Firehawks, Frisch, Fuchs Mizrachi, Ma’ayanot, North Shore H.A., Ramaz, defending champ SAR and the LA Panthers.
Joining the host Firehawks in the boys’ tourney are: Frisch, Fuchs Mizrachi, H.A. Miami, H.A. Montreal, Jewish Culture, Kushner, Ramaz, SAR and the LA Panthers.
Each team will play two games Wednesday and Thursday to determine seeding.

The seeding is set for next week’s Memphis Yeshiva Invitational tournament.
The 17th annual tournament, which expanded last year to 20 teams, is scheduled for Oct. 28 to Nov. 1.
The prelim games feature the bottom eight seeds to determine the final four teams who will have a chance to qualify for Tier 1.

The Hillel Heat won their first Magen David Tournament championship, pulling away in the 4th quarter to beat the DRS Wildcats 74-63 in Sunday’s championship game.
The JHA-season opening tournament each year is in memory of Elliot Torkieh, A’H.
Aaron Gindi led the Heat (5-0) with 17 points.
The Wildcats (4-1) overcame an early injury to top player Elisha Tsaidi to stay with the Heat through 3 1/2 quarters, led by Dani Gast’s 25 points.
Hillel relied on balanced scoring and defense throughout the tournament. Jason Zekaria averaged 14 points per game and Abe Franco and Joe Mizrahi each averaged more than 12.
The title game win completed a hot start for the Heat under first-year coach Brian Jensen. They were the top seed after beating HAFTR and HANC in last Sunday’s preliminary round. They beat YDE in the quarterfinals and Western Conference rival Ramaz in the semis.
Hillel plays TABC and MTA in their first league games before heading to the Memphis Yeshiva Invitational Oct. 28. DRS does not open league play until Nov. 7 against HANC.
YESHIVA LEAGUE
Thursday
Mia Form scored 26 points and Rae Meyer added 14 and the host Rams took control with a 14-2 3rd quarter to win the season opener for both teams. Esther Jemal led the Warriors with 10 points.
Wednesday
Ava Cohen led the Sting with 17 points in the league season opener.
