Tanzman Tournament Begins Thursday

Six boys varsity teams will compete in the 8th Annual David Tanzman Memorial Tournament that tips off Thursday afternoon at Farber Hebrew Day in Southfield, Mich.

In addition to the host Fire, the participants are the Atlanta Jewish Academy Jaguars, the Columbus Torah Academy Lions, the Denver Academy of Torah Wolves, the Mekor Chaim Cyclones and the Or Chaim Toronto Knights.

Each team will play three games through Saturday night, with the 5th Place, 3rd Place and Championship games on Sunday.

All games will be live-streamed at YouTube.com/@TanzmanTournament

Here's the schedule:

Thursday

5:30 - Columbus Torah Academy vs Denver Academy of Torah
7:00- Mekor Chaim vs Farber Detroit
8:30 - Atlanta Jewish Academy vs Mekor Chaim

Friday

9:30 AM - Mekor Chaim vs Denver Academy of Torah
11:00 - Farber Detroit vs Atlanta Jewish Academy
12:30 - Or Chaim Toronto vs Columbus Torah Academy

Saturday Night

7:30 - Or Chaim Toronto vs Mekor Chaim
8:45 - Columbus Torah Academy vs Farber Detroit
10:15 - Atlanta Jewish Academy vs Denver Academy of Torah

Sunday

10:00 AM - 5th Place

Championship

The Lions pulled away in the 4th quarter to complete a 5-0 tourney and successfully defend their title. The Tigers are 12-6.

SOUTHEAST

Don Soffer Aventura 66 Jewish Culture 59

Shilo Kahan’s 15 points led four players in double figures but the #7 Lions (24-12) had their 8-game win streak snapped. Jojo Alfassy added 13 points, David Albilia had 11 and Zee Itzkowitz scored 10.

NORTHEAST

Rocky Hill Country Day 56 Gann 45

Ezra Cutler scored 18 points for the #20 Red Heifers (14-4).

Arlington Catholic 59 Maimonides 47

Amiel Jotkowitz led the M-Cats (8-14) with 12 points and Ariel Jeselsohn and Danny Missaghi added 10 each.

Hillel Pittsburgh 41 Redeemer Lutheran 23

Zach Itskowitz led the Heat (5-4) with 15 points and Gavi Poznanski added 11.

SOUTHEAST

H.A. Miami 59 Tiferes Torah 55

The #17 Warriors improve to 18-14.

MIDWEST

Rochelle Zell  47 Westmont 36

Ronen Ousley led the Tigers (2-13) with 18 points.

Ida Crown 69 Clemente 40

Judah Well scored 27 points to lead the #19 Aces (14-1) to their fourth straight win.

WEST

CALIFORNIA

Providence 66 Milken 55

Ashton Javaheri scored 18 points and Levi Werner added 11 for the #1 Wildcats (17-13).

San Diego Jewish Academy 76 St. Joseph 52

The Lions are 14-4.

YESHIVA LEAGUE

SAR 52 Frisch 40

Ari Halpert scored 11 points and Avery Simon added 10 to lead the #11 Sting (9-4; 20-6) to their sixth straight win. Isaac Stepner scored 17 points for the #3 Cougars (11-3; 15-4), who had their 4-game win streak snapped but still clinched 1st Place in the West when Ramaz lost.

Hillel 63 Ramaz  51

Bruce Epstein scored 20 points and Abe Franco added 17 as the #15 Heat (8-5; 12-8) kept the #10 Rams (11-3; 17-8) from winning the West. Emanuel Kushner had 12 points and Alon Sidi scored 11 for Ramaz, who had their 5-game win streak snapped.

Flatbush 61 HAFTR 38

The #12 Hawks (8-6; 20-11) stormed out to a 15-2 lead but the #4 Falcons (9-3; 17-5) took the lead by the end of the 1st half and dominated from there.

JEC 49 MTA 47

The Thunder are 10-16, 5-8 in the league. The #16 Lions fall to 9-8, 7-5 in the league.

The #3 Tigers (22-2) won their fourth straight title and finished the season on a 13-game win streak.

SOUTHEAST

The Lions are 3-4.

MIDWEST

Fuchs Mizrachi  69 St. Josephs 49

Izzy Wilbur scored 27 points to lead the #13 Mayhem (11-3).

Rochelle Zell 64 Cristo Rey Jesuit 19

Shylee Blavvise scored 17 points and Gaya Bannai added 13 as the #17 Tigers (9-4) extended their win streak to four games.

YESHIVA LEAGUE

Frisch 54 SAR 45

Zoey Levy scored 23 points and Izzy Nadtrich added 16 as the #2 Cougars (13-1; 17-2) ended the #1 Sting’s 36-game win streak over two years. SAR (13-1; 23-1) did clinch 1st Place in the West and the top seed in the playoffs on a point differential tiebreaker when Ava Cohen hit an otherwise meaningless 3-pointer with :08 left in the game. The Sting had beaten Frisch by 15 points in their first game. Liv Solomon led SAR with 20 points and Cohen had 15.

Gabriela Ackermann led the #4 Firehawks (15-8) with 11 points.

Liana Weisel led the Rapids (4-10) with 13 points. Julie Weinberg had 10 for the Cobras (1-13).

SKA 76 HAFTR 32

Lea Steinmetz scored 16 points, Leah Sicklick added 13 and Dani Leifer had 11 as the #6 Sonics (11-3) get their fourth straight win to finish the regular season atop the East.The Hawks are 8-9, 6-8 in the league.
