Scott Satran Memorial Tournament begins Thursday at HAFTR

HAFTR’s 39th annual Scott Satran z’l Memorial Tournament tips off Thursday at 5:30 pm. .

Seven of the tournament’s 12 teams are ranked in the Jewish Hoops America National Top 25 - #3 DRS, #6 North Shore H.A., #8 Magen David, #12 Berman H.A., #13 Jewish Culture, #16 H.A. Miami and the host #20 HAFTR. The other participants are Barkai, HANC, JEC, Mekor Chaim and Rambam.

Each team will play three preliminary games Thursday and Friday to determine seeding. Play-in games featuring the 5 through 12 teams will be on Saturday night followed by the Tier 1 quarterfinals, the top 4 seeds against the winners of the 5 through 12 games.

The semifinals, Tier 2 and Tier 3 1st Place games and the tournament championship game will be on Sunday. The losing teams from the 5 through 12 games will comprise Tier 3. The losing teams from the Tier 1 quarterfinals will make up Tier 2.

Lea Steinmetz led the #7 Sonics (9-3) with 10 points. The #11 Falcons fell to 10-8, 10-4 in the league.

Ayalah Stulberger scored 14 points and Molly Leifer and Shirel Barzideh added 10 each to lead the Hurricanes (4-7; 6-11). The Cobras are 1-11.

The #1 Wildcats (10-11) gave up a 7-point lead in the final 3 minutes, went ahead on a pair of free throws with :04 left but lost when Menlo player was fouled on a 3-pointer with :00.7 left and hit all three free throws. Daniel Kohanim led Milken with 13 points and Ashton Javaheri added 10.

HAFTR 60 YDE 54

The #20 Hawks (8-5; 15-8) won their third straight game. Alan Fallas led the Thunder (3-7; 3-9) with 22 points.

MTA 57 HANC 47

The #15 Lions (6-3; overcame a double-digit 1st quarter deficit to win their third straight game. Andi Richman led the way with 18 points, Yishai Neiss and Ethan Vaysman added 13 each and Gavi Engel had 10. Yossi Davidovitz and Sam Ofer each scored 12 points for the Hurricanes (4-7; 13-8).

Shilo Kahan’s 18 points led six players in double figures as the #13 Lions (11-9) won their sixth straight game. Mica Hazan added 14 points, Orel Nahmani had 12, Zee Itzkowitz and Noah Seplowitz scored 11 each and David Albilia had 10. Ilan Attias led the #17 Storm (9-6) with 21 points and Nir Ovaknin had 15.

Adam Sakoff scored 15 points and five others scored in double figures as the #5 Wolfpack (18-3) extended their JHA season-high winning streak to 14 games. Ben Mahgerefteh, Meir Dan and Dvir Assayag Raham added 13 points apiece and Eli Leibowitz and Adam Bouzaglou had 11 each.

Elisha Tsaidi scored 14 points and Michael Solomon added 11 as the the #3 Wildcats (11-1; 15-3) dominated the second half to win their fifth straight game, avenge their only league loss of the season and solidify their hold on 1st place in the East. The #2 Falcons (8-3; 16-5) dropped their second game in as many days and fell into 3rd in the East.

HANC 78 Barkai 49

The Hurricanes are 12-7, 4-6 in the league. The Suns dropped to 2-10 in the league, 2-12 overall.

Kushner 60 JEC 59

The Cobras (5-8; 8-10) almost blew a 7-point lead in the final :22 but held on to win their third straight game. The Thunder dropped to 7-11, 4-7 in the league.

North Shore H.A. 54 Waterbury Yeshiva 37

Aryeh Sanadaji scored 18 points, Benji Levian added 12 and Charlie Sassoon and Andrew Kohanim had 10 each to power the #6 Lions (6-4; 18-6). The Wolfpack fall to 4-8.

Solly Hara scored 16 points, Jacob Chami added 15, Solly Movazeb had 10 and Sam Chira pulled down 19 rebounds to go with 9 points as the #8 Warriors (8-2; 13-5) rallied from a 9-point halftime deficit. The #2 Falcons (8-2; 16-4) had their 7-game win streak snapped. They had a chance to tie in the final second - first with three foul shots and then, after the first and third shots missed, on a putback opportunity but it clanged off the rim.

Abe Tobias scored 14 points and Leyad Teren added 13 for the #14 Heat (6-4; 10-7). Naftali Hochstein led the #17 Storm (7-6; 8-9) with 12 points.

Lili Hanan led the #11 Falcons (10-3; 10-7) with 18 points. Rina Fatiha scored 20 points for the Warriors, who finished the regular season 3-11. They are 3-14 overall.

Toby Levy scored 32 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the #22 Thunder (8-6).

Westlake 54 Milken 53

The #1 Wildcats (10-9) lost on a putback just before the buzzer in the quarterfinals of the St. Francis Holiday Hoopfest. Grayson Coleman, Daniel Kohanim and Levi Werner each scored 11 points for Milken, who had won three straight games.

Meir Dan scored 24 points, Dvir Assayag Raham added 22 and Joey Victor had 15 as the #5 Wolfpack (17-3) won their JHA season-long 13th straight game. The #23 Panthers (6-13) got 22 points from Kobe Mahler and 11 from Sam Noah.

HAFTR 45 HANC 41

The Hurricanes (3-6; 12-7) cut a 14-point 3rd quarter deficit to 1 but lost out on free throws in the final minute. The #20 Hawks are now 13-8, 6-5 in the league.
