SAR tops Frisch in Girls championship game

The #1 SAR Sting overcame horrible shooting in the 1st half Monday night to rally past the #2 Frisch Cougars for a 51-35 win in the 2024-25 MYHSAL Girls Varsity A championship game at Heschel.

The Sting were so out of sorts in the opening two quarters that they had not even reached double figures at the break, trailing 17-9. But three Nava Bousbib 3-pointers in the span of 3 minutes of the 3rd quarter gave them a lead they did not relinquish.She finished with 20 points and Ava Cohen added 16.

Frisch had not shot much better in the 1st half and their shooting woes continued past intermission, when they were outscored by 24 points. Izzy Nadtrich led the Cougars with 19 points.

It was the Sting’s 3rd straight win over their rivals from Paramus since the Cougars beat them in November in the championship game of the Glouberman Tournament. Those were the only losses Frisch suffered the entire year as they finish the season 19-3. SAR is 20-2, with their only other loss to SKA in overtime during the regular season. The Sting still have six games left this weekend when they travel to Maryland for the Berman Invitational.

Shana Strohli scored 21 points to lead the #14 Warriors (22-8). Daphna Steinmetz had 21 points for the #5 Sonics (17-5)..

Shira Abramson led the #4 Firehawks (21-11) with 29 points. Kira Heumann had 24 points for the #9 Panthers (20-13).

Shira Abramson scored 20 points and Gabriela Ackrmann added 10 as the #4 Firehawks (22-11) completed an undefeated tournament. The #14 Warriors ended the season 22-9.

Kira Heumann scored 12 points and Tamar Berkowitz added 11 to lead the #9 Panthers (20-12).

Daphna Steinmetz scored 25 points, Leah Sicklick added 15 and Lea Steinmetz had 14 as the #5 Sonics (16-4) pulled away in the second half. Shylee Blavvise led the #10 Tigers (16-10) with 28 points.
