MIDATLANTIC

Springdale Prep 82 Berman H.A. 50

Game was even halfway into the second quarter but there was only so much the #6 Cougars (31-7) could do against the Lions’ front line of 6’8, 6’10 and 7’0 as they fell in the opening round of the Maryland Private School State Tournament. Alex August led Berman with 27 points.

French International 45 Yeshiva Greater Washington 34

Akiva Ravin scored 16 points but the Knights (14-4) had their five-game win streak snapped in the ISSAC semifinals.

MIDWEST

Ida Crown 53 Harvest Christian 51

Judah Well’s two free throws with :24 left gave the #14 Aces (18-4) the win (on the Lions’ home court) in the IHSA 1A Elgin Regional championship game. They advance to the Somonauk Sectional semifinals, where they will play the winner of Hinckley-Big Rock/Serena on March 5.

WEST

Yavneh Dallas 55 Live Oak Classical 45

The Bulldogs (22-10) won their second TAPPS 3A state title in six years. They squandered an 11-point lead in the 3rd quarter, falling behind by one on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer, but then recovered in the 4th as Live Oak went cold. Darren Sacher and Aeden Haviv each scored 15 points to lead Yavneh.

Front Range Baptist 66 Denver Jewish Day 44

The Tigers (8-10) fell in the District 8-1A championship game.

CALIFORNIA

Cambridge 50 Southern California Yeshiva 36

The Hawks (12-10) fell CIF San Diego 5AA sectional championship game.

YESHIVA LEAGUE

DRS 61 SAR 49

Joe Aaron scored 14 points and Gaby Spodek and Adir Sacknovitz added 13 each as the #3 Wildcats (27-3) pulled away to win their 13th straight game and advance to the semifinals, where they’ll play Magen David. #7 Sting dropped to 21-7.

Eliana Wolfson led the #14 Warriors (18-8) with 24 points.

The #4 Firehawks improve to 18-11. #7 Aces now 14-8.

Firehawks now 19-11.

SKA 58 Rochelle Zell 38

Daphna Steinmetz and Leah Sicklick scored 16 points each and Lea Steinmetz added 11 as the #5 Sonics (13-4) dominated the 2nd half. Shylee Blavvise led the #10 Tigers (16-7) with 18 points and Elana Cohen added 13.

Hawks now 11-13.

Kira Heumann led the #9 Panthers (17-12) with 17 points.

Sharon Tanne scored 16 points and Olivia Glassman added 11 but the 9th seeded Lions fell to the 8th seed in the opening round of the British Columbia 1A Provincial Tournament.

WEST

Hyman Brand H.A. 45 Daniel 20

Gabby Sosland scored 16 points as the Rams (12-10) won the Great Plains Athletic Conference 3rd Place game.

In the Section 1 Class B quarterfinals, Ilai Mandelbaum scored 23 points and Nate Mervis added 11 but the #21 Lions (13-8) had no answer for the Eagles’ Anthony Ficarrotta, who scored 39.

SOUTHEAST

Toras Chaim 83 Katz YHS 54

Pinch Greenwald scored 30 points, Benny Dalfin added 25 and Menachem Bloom had 13 as the Lightning (8-2) overran the #17 Storm (15-12).

MIDWEST

Rochelle Zell 58 MCC 49

Ronen Ousley scored 19 points, Lev Dolinsky added 16 and Nitai Gorlin had 10 as the #16 Tigers (14-11) advanced to the IHSA 1A Deerfield regional final against North Shore Country Day.

Ida Crown 55 St. Edward 51

Avi Okner scored 25 points as the #14 Aces (17-4) advance to the IHSA 1A Elgin regional final.

North Shore Country Day 60 Fasman Yeshiva 51

#15 The Yeshiva (15-7) was outscored 12-2 over the final 5 minutes and fell in the IHSA 1A Deerfield regional semifinals. Adir Amster scored 18 points and Ezra Schwartz had 11.

WEST

Yavneh Dallas 64 Lakehill Prep 48

At the state Final Four, poor free-throw shooting in the 1st half left the Bulldogs (20-10) knotted at the break but they dominated over the final two quarters to reach the TAPPS 3A championship game.

YESHIVA LEAGUE

Magen David 66 MTA 53

A 24-11 2nd quarter put the #8 Warriors (21-9) in control as they cruised to their fourth straight win and a semifinal matchup against the winner of DRS and SAR. Josh Chabbott led Magen David with 19 points, Jack Dweck added 17 and Meyer Sakkal had 14. The #12 Lions drop to 19-6.

TABC 43 Flatbush 40

The #4 Storm (18-4) rallied from 10 down in the 3rd quarter to advance to the semifinals against North Shore H.A. Yonah Mandel and Akiva Borgen each scored 12 points for TABC and Eyal Kinderlehrer had 10 points, 14 rebounds. The #25 Falcons are 13-13.

The M-Cats (9-10) fell in the opening round of the MIAA Division 4 playoffs. Ariel Jesselson led Maimo with 10 points.

CANADA

St. John Paul II 70 CHAT 56

Jacob Zackheim scored 23 points and Dash Tarek-Kaminker added 12 but the #22 Tigers (30-6) fell in the TDCAA Senior AAA championship game.

Gabrielle Roy 75 King David HS 60

Paul Zychlinski scored 28 points but the Lions fell in the GVISAA Senior Boys semifinals.

King David HS 95 Regent Christian 55

Eitan Arazi scored 25 points and Noah Robibo added 18 as the Lions won the 3rd Place game in the GVISAA Senior Boys tournament.

WEST

Denver Jewish Day 64 Denver Waldorf 57

Solly Bielsky scored 26 points, Ronen Trujillo added 14 and Michael Rafailov had 11 to lead the Tigers (8-9) in the District 8-1A semifnials.

CALIFORNIA

Southern California Yeshiva 51 San Diego Academy 24

Zach Eiseman scored 18 points and Nadav Aron added 13 as the Hawks (12-9) advanced to the CIF San Diego 5AA sectional championship.

GIRLS

NORTHEAST

Southwick Regional 51 Maimonides 34

Leah Kaplan and Eden Taieb each scored 12 points but the M-Cats (8-7) fell in the MIAA Division 4 opening round.

WEST

The Tigers (9-8) advance to the District 8-1A championship game.

Galbut Tournament

February 26, 2025

The 19th annual Captain Hyman P. Galbut Girls Basketball Shabbaton tips off Wednesday, Feb. 26 in Miami Beach with teams visiting from California, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, Tennessee and Toronto.

Host Hebrew Academy of Miami will be joined by HAFTR, Hillel-NJ, Ida Crown, Margolin, Rochelle Zell, Shalhevet, SKA, Ulpanat Orot and YULA. Six of the teams - Shalhevet, SKA, Ida Crown, YULA, Rochelle Zell and H.A. Miami are ranked in Jewish Hoops America’s Chai High, the girls’ national Top 18.

Preliminary games to determine seeding will be played Wednesday and Thursday, with the playoffs Friday and semifinals and championship on Saturday night.
