The Wildcats 5-0) opened strong, leading 8-1, but cooled off in the second quarter and trailed 12-10 at the half. The Stars struggled offensively from there, managing just 10 points in the final two quarters as DRS gradually pulled away.

Stephen Olshin led DRS with 13 points and Alex Millstone added 10. For the Stars (3-2), Jonah Carmili had 8 points.

Frisch 85 Ohr Yisroel 53

Alex Zakheim scored 27 points over the first three quarters and Sammy Zelenetz added 12 as the Cougars rolled in the first game of the MYHSAL season. The Flames kept it close in a high scoring 1st quarter trailing by only 25-19. But they were outscored 15-4 in the second before Frisch extended its lead after halftime. Asher Goldberg led Ohr Yisroel with 13 points, Shmoozie Rosen added 12 and Reuven Rozehzadeh had 11.



Top 4 seeds advance to Magen David Tournament semifinals

The seeding held up Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the Elliot Torkieh A’H Magen David Preseason Tournament with all four top seeds winning.

In Thursday’s semifinals, #1 SAR will play #4 North Shore H.A. and #2 DRS will take on #3 Magen David.

SAR 54 Ramaz 48

Akiva Schanzer, who missed Sunday’s preliminary games, led the top-seeded Sting (3-0) with 13 points and Jonah Sokol added 10. Milan Kushner scored 19 points, Sam Ostad had 13 and Eden Bracha 12 for the #8 Rams (1-2).

DRS 62 Hillel 51

Stephen Olshin led the #2 Wildcats in scoring for the third straight game, finishing with 21 points, and DRS (3-0) pulled away from the #7 Heat (1-2) in the final four minutes. Ari Saffra added 15 points and Isaac Solomon had 10. Elliot Braha led Hillel with 27 points and Moses Smeke scored 13.

Magen David 59 YDE 28

The outcome was never in doubt as the #3 Warriors (3-0) jumped out to a 14-2 1st quarter lead over the #6 Thunder (1-2) and extended it to 31-9 at the half. Asher Melamed led the hosts with 28 points.

North Shore H.A. 55 JEC 37

The #5 Thunder (1-2) broke a halftime tie with the first bucket of the third quarter but never led again as the #4 Stars (2-1) pulled away in the fourth to beat JEC for the second time in the tourney. David Orbach led North Shore with 19 points, Jonah Carmili added 12 and Jordan Zarka had 10 points and 15 rebounds.
