19th ANNUAL BERNARD \"RED\" SARACHEK TOURNAMENT FIELD SET

The 20-team field for the 19th annual Bernard "Red" Sarachek Tournament at Yeshiva University is set with the selection of Hebrew Academy Five Towns and Rockaway (HAFTR), Ramaz, Frisch and Hebrew Academy of Nassau County (HANC).

. The four teams join the Marsha Stern Talmudical Academy (MTA) as the representatives of the Metropolitan Yeshiva High School Basketball League.

The remaining participants are Akiva-Detroit, Beren Academy-Houston, Berman Hebrew Academy-Washington, Bialik High School-Montreal, Block Yeshiva-St. Louis, Chicagoland Jewish High School, Columbus Torah Academy, Fuchs Mizrachi-Cleveland, Hillel-Pittsburgh, Ida Crown Jewish Academy, Or Chaim-Toronto, Shalhevet, Southern California Yeshiva, Valley Torah, YULA.

Seeding for the tournament will be announced the week of March 1. As in recent years, the tournament selected the top two teams and two at-large teams from the Yeshiva League HAFTR (27-1 overall) completed a perfect 14-0 regular season in league play to win the East Division and capture the top seed heading into the playoffs. Ramaz (21-2) finished atop the West Division with a 13-1 record.

Frisch (14-6) was runner-up to Ramaz in the West and HANC (16-11) was runner up in the East. The Cougars will be making their fourth appearance at Sarachek. They reached the championship game in 2005 and 2006. The Hurricanes have appeared at Sarachek once before, reaching the final in 2008. MTA (14-5) finished second in the Central Division. They have played in every Sarachek tournament and won it three times, the last time in 1999. Ramaz won its first Sarachek title last year in its eighth shot and will try to be the first champion to repeat there since 2001, when YULA accomplished the feat. HAFTR will be at Sarachek for the 10th time. The Hawks won the tourney in 1994 - the last time they were in the final.
